Best Energy Foods For Breakfast

8:29 PM

Whether you’re a morning person or not, research has shown that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Although you may not have the time, or appetite, you can give yourself the best start to the day, by trying to eat or drink something. To help get your engine running, I’ve put together some tips, and the best energy foods for breakfast.

1. Juice and Honey

If you’re late, and don’t have time to sit down for breakfast, drinking a glass of orange juice, with a little honey added, can kick-start your day.  A glass of orange juice counts as one of your 5 a day, and the slow releasing sugar in honey, will keep your blood sugars from spiking. Grab an apple on your way out the door, and you can munch it on the way.

2. Fuel Up with Fruit

Kick-start your metabolism, your immune system, and fill up with fiber, by eating some delicious fruit.  Bananas are the best convenience food around.  Add blueberries, apples or prunes to your yogurt, or high fiber cereal.  If you’ve got the time, you can make an tasty energy boosting smoothie using  these ingredients.  You’ll feel satisfied and ready for whatever comes your way.

3. Power Up with Protein

Eating eggs in the morning, is the best way of boosting your energy. Packed with protein, eggs help regulate your blood  sugar levels, keeping you feeling fuller for longer.  Why not indulge at the weekend with a cooked breakfast, you deserve it.  Tempt yourself by filling the house with the delicious smell of grilled lean sausages, low fat bacon, scrambled eggs, and some fresh wholegrain bread.  Add in a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, and you have a delicious breakfast, full of all the good stuff.

4. Tried and Tested

Oatmeal, made with milk, can get your motor running, and set you up for the day.  Add a few slices of fresh or dried fruit, sliced almonds, sprinkle a little cinnamon on top, and you’re good to go.  Oatmeal has slow releasing carbohydrates, milk is full of calcium, fruit and nuts add fiber, and cinnamon curbs hunger.  All together, this is one of the best, and least expensive breakfast meals you can eat.

5. A Different Type of Breakfast

When I was writing about Top 4 Easy Diets To Follow, earlier this week, I was curious about what our Mediterranean friends had for their breakfast.  I discovered that they eat wholegrain bread, with different types of sliced cheese, and cold cuts of meat of turkey or ham, served up on a platter, with some grapes on the side.  Olive oil is drizzled on wholegrain bread instead of butter or margarine, topped off with some low fat ricotta cheese. Mediterranean breakfast can be a mix of sweet or savory foods. It’s important to remember that you eat enough food, to boost your energy levels, and keep you feeling full until lunchtime.
So if you’re running out the door in the morning, you can still grab some of nature’s fast food, like a banana, or an apple and a handful of nuts.  At the weekend you can treat yourself to a cooked breakfast, or you could try something different and go Mediterranean.  Whatever you decide to have for breakfast, it is the most important meal of the day.  By trying not to skip it, you will keep healthy, happy and feel more content.  Make sure you get the best start to the day.
